BitcoinTalk Returns to Life, Crucifies Altcoin Community

Today, Bitcointalk.org returned to life after falling victim to another alleged website attack. The popular bitcoin forum had been offline for the last several days. This time the outage was blamed on a social engineering plot orchestrated against its shared Webhost.

Bitcointalk is the central communication hub of the Bitcoin community. It’s where Satoshi Nakamoto proposed changes to the early code, and where cryptocurrency adopters, and investors alike, exchange ideas and collaborate.

Long-time users of the site might notice one glaring change in the organization of the forum’s boards. The Altcoin section has been banished to last place, reduced to lessor importance than the Local Boards. It’s not known at the time of this writing the reason for the punishment.

stevePenn State Professor of Information Sciences and Technology, Dr. John Carroll, recently speculated that an alternative currency will ultimately replace the original cryptocoin. “Historically, the first generation of a given innovation ultimately is not the one that persists,” said Carroll.

It could be that the “rise and rise” of the altcoins is perceived as a growing threat to the ruling Bitcoin oligarchy. Coinmarketcap.com shows the gap slowly narrowing between the digital currency leader Bitcoin and the remaining pack.

Will the Altcoin section eventually be removed entirely? Should Bitcointalk invest in its own webserver? Log in below using you favorite social network and share your views.
