Andreas Antonopoulos, Bitcoin’s spiritual leader and current chief security officer of the popular online wallet Blockchain.info has just released a statement on his Facebook page announcing he will be incommunicado for the first week of April 2014.
Last week, Blockchain.info experienced a severe outage that spanned multiple days and left some users frantically refreshing their web browsers. During the outage, Antonopoulos said he and his team were working around the clock to restore service.
We understand how frustrating it can be to be unable to access funds and we would like to take every precaution necessary to ensure this does not recur. Our team has worked non-stop to ensure services are returned to you in a timely manner.
Andreas has become the face of Bitcoin over the past several months, calming nerves by reassuring its followers that the digital currency was not broken, after suggestions by the Japanese exchange MtGox that flaws in the bitcoin protocol were to blame for its technical implosion.
The Blockchain security guru has been quick to point out, that while Bitcoin is not perfect, it’s the most brilliant transactional solution ever invented and is still evolving. Several times each week, Andreas posts biblical-styled bitcoin quotes on his Facebook wall to inspire the faithful.
Even with his expert leadership and guidance, however, Bitcoin has been on a downward slide over the past month. But the news has not been all bad, with some of the most promising alternatives like Goldcoin (GLD) experiencing gains during the same period. At press time, BTC was trading at $555 with a market capitalization of $7 billion according to cryptmarketcap.com
Coindesk often refers to Antonopoulos as Bitcoin’s thought leader but I think it’s more accurate to describe him as “Bitcoin’s Jesus”.
Happy vacationing Mr. Antonopoulos and here’s hoping you enjoy your well-deserved Bitcoin hiatus!
